Shop Del Prado in Dana Point
03.06.15
Shop Del Prado is a new program in Dana Point to feature business listings, spotlights and special promotions of the 100 businesses affected by street beautification project along Del Prado between Ruby Lantern and Golden Lantern.
Shop Del Prado offers a contest to drive business and reward shoppers--you’ll receive one entry per every $10 spent at eligible Del Prado businesses. A total of ten winners - one per month - will be selected at random by the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce and prizes include hotel, retail and restaurant packages valued between $350 - $750 each.
The multi-phase project between Ruby Lantern and Golden Lantern should be finished in September 2015. Improvements include a more pedestrian-oriented business district and a new Dana Point Lantern District gateway archway.
A sample of participating businesses include Infinity Board Shop, Jack’s, Bonjour Café & Bistro, Luciana’s Ristorante, Ez Green Bicycles, Killer Dana Surf Shop, Sun Salute Yoga, Thai This, White Lotus Day Spa, Outrigger Surf, Luxe Restaurant and Bar.

In Admiration of Henry T. Segerstrom
03.04.15
From day one of this publication nine years ago, and really for 14 years prior, when I wrote a retail and dining column for the Daily Pilot, I have one person to thank for providing nonstop material to cover: Henry T. Segerstrom.
He single handedly brought culture and commerce to Orange County like no other. He was instrumental in transforming Orange County to a world-class arts and shopping destination. It’s been reported in the LA Times that more than 22 million visitors a year come to South Coast Plaza; it currently boasts about 280 stores with $1.7 billion in annual sales.
Generations of people now have access to arts and culture at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa that rival any big city in the world thanks to his leadership and vision. I am sad to hear of his passing, but beyond thankful for all that he brought to Orange County and for ultimately helping to create daily content for my work.
